A Room

Christian Kirtchev

This in the room is ultra-violet light, not a “disco-lamp”. Not just because it’s a part of the interior and makes the place more cozy, but because the ultra-violet light helps you see, things, which the ordinary light, hides.

Near the TV-set you can see couple of computer monitors, but why’s the TV on the floor? On the computer monitors, one can see a black screen with white text- scrolling data of current and past events, leeched out of log-files, located somewhere far away... and yet so close. You can also see and the 2D image, showing the events of a VR session. A Copy of the left and right images that are flashing in the VR helmet left alone on the hanging chair.

A big-tower case with multitude flashing lights over the front panel and unclear sights of rows of integrals behind the opened lattice-construction. The cover of the case is down, not just for better cooling, but maybe just because the look of all that electronics, all the integrals- tickles.

The old-fashion, wireless, 85-keys keyboard is hiding somewhere in the room, it can’t be seen. You should whistle, so the sound-responding keyring, attached with tape to her, will answer with a nice [beep], revealing its location. This always helps in case, you have forgotten, where you’ve been, the last time, you were clicking on the gray keys with the bright-white signs on them. It’s cool that you can see the keys in the dark, because of the ultra-violet light, that makes the white glow in the dark.

The printer spits pages with HEX code on them, with unclear purpose. Actually is it really unclear? ... The rumbling, relaxes you, with its melody, anyway. Regardless the relaxing melody, this type of data storage, teases. But after all one can’t always find where to jack-in his laptop, to look over something. And those, to whom you will sell this information, are kinda lame and are looking in a funny way to the disk, you are handing them. And just how funny they are while trying to play the 3,5” CD on their home stereo, like they expect the data to flow as music. Well, the data flows like music, but with a melody, known only to the machine.

Those magazines on the floor... Somewhere among them is the lost in the last night- ampule of “Cofeine”. But how could one possibly find it in this paper overload of manuals and technical journals. Anyway. There are others, ordered in lines in the small refrigerator. Ha, the red cola cans are looking so strange along the green bottles of beer. And the liquid in the transparent ampules of Dopamin-Stimulant, looks so cool, compared with the boring-brown Cofein ampules.

The pale light of the setting sun is somewhere out there, behind the bar-curtain. The red rays of light are trying to get trough the dark room, for the last time, today. But they give up. They know that somebody, coming from the cold street, will enter this room, soon. They know that behind the curtain, life is about to begin. The life of a cyberpunk...
